Reversible Copper Sulfide Conversion in Nonflammable Trimethyl Phosphate Electrolytes for Safe Sodium?Ion Batteries

Rechargeable sodium-ion batteries are considered promising candidates for low-cost and large-scale energy storage systems. However, the limited density, cyclability, safety issues remain challenges practical applications. Herein, investigation of Cu1.8S/C composite material as negative electrode active (conversion) in combination with a concentrated electrolyte composed 3.3 m solution sodium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (NaFSI) trymethyl phosphate fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) additive is reported on. Such enables stable cycling conversion-type hundreds cycles high capacity (380 mAh g?1). Both salt contribute to formation NaF-rich solid interphase (SEI) on anode surface. A full cell using Na3V2(PO4)3/C cathode also demonstrates performance 200 Coulombic efficiency (CE) (99.3%). These findings open new opportunities development safer rechargeable batteries.
